What Parents Do at a
Cooperative Preschool
 | Parents own and operate the preschool. |
 | Each family assists the professional teacher usually 2 days
per month as an essential part of the teaching team. |
 | While "parent helping", you interact with the children
during their activities, supervise small groups, and do light cleaning. |
 | Parents rotate bringing the class snack. |
 | Each parent has a school job and participates in
fundraising. |
 | Parents participate in two work parties per year. |
Unlike other cooperative preschools, SICP parents do not have
to attend weekend school cleanup. At SICP we have hired professional cleaners to
weekly conduct the thorough cleaning and sanitation of the school and toys.
Parent Education
 | Parent education is a benefit of this program. |
 | At meetings you will learn about child development,
guidance and education. |
 | We are affiliated with the South Puget Sound Community
College Parent Education and Early Childhood Education Department. |
 | Parents must participate in three parent education
activities per quarter: |
Items that qualify as a parent education activity:
 | Attend a board meeting that is combined with parent
education (once per quarter) |
 | Attend the quarterly class meetings. |
 | Attend the parent education meetings and special
speakers. |
 | Attend a preschool sponsored activity such as Family
Night at the Hands On Children's Museum, Family Game Night, or Art for
Parents. |
 | Earn college credits. |
